Charlie and Hazel Daniel’s Veterans and Military Family Center, hosted at Middle Tennessee State University, held their inaugural Veteran Impact Celebration this year.

On Thursday, June 28th, Priority Staffing Group attended as a sponsor of the event held at The Grove at Williamson Place in Murfreesboro. This sponsorship helped us further solidify our relationship with this amazing organization as an Employment Partner.

The event featured drinks, dinner and a night of entertainment for the corporate sponsors, who collectively raised over $41,000 for the center, and retired military officers, MTSU alumni, and other supporters. In total, including a $100,000 donation from Charlie and Hazel Daniels, the event raised $171,000.

 

MTSU’s Project Song was showcased first, which teamed up student songwriters with professional musicians to create songs that told stories, some even about student veterans who were in attendance at the event.

Scott Brown, of the Scooter Brown Band, played before the event concluded with a performance from Charlie Daniels himself, along with his band. They performed “In America” and “My Beautiful America.”

 

 

 

So why is this organization so important?

 

The Veterans and Military Family Center does more than just pat our veterans on the back for a job well done. And why there’s no reason not to thank our veterans for their service, actions really do speak louder than words. And that’s why this group of people on MTSU’s campus is so important. They DO.

 

Services offered include:

  • Transitioning Home – They help our veterans apply for the university, assist with financial aid and off-campus issues including family matters and finding affordable homes. They make sure our veterans are set up for success.

 

  • Employment – Believe it or not, it can be even more difficult for a veteran to find employment if all their experience is military. The center reaches out to employment partners (like Priority Staffing Group) to find available employment opportunities for veterans AND their family members. They also make phone calls to HR Managers to advocate for a veteran hire!

 

  • Counseling – This includes professional career counseling, transition counseling, financial counseling and assistance with tutoring.

 

Above all other services, the center provides support in the form of a lending hand and a listening ear. They listen to the problems our veterans are having and don’t say no if it’s in their power to help.

Chili Cook Off

The 9th Annual Southern Illinois Chili Cook Off was held at the Marion Elks on November 4th. The outdoor event raised money for several local charities.

Gail Lannom, Priority Group CEO, along with Megan Jones, Professional Group COO, and Lindzey Barger, Business Development, were on the planning committee for the event.

 

Nearly 800 people attended and 32 competitors participated in the Chili Cook Off and Bloody Mary competitions, which had a Game Show theme.

 

 

The GLITS girls represented Priority Staffing Group for the 9th year in the competition. They won Best Team Theme with Wheel of Fortune.

Other activities included a silent auction, raffles, and a bags tournament, all raising money for the selected charities.

Up from last year’s $23,000 raised, the event surpassed the $25,000 goal for 2017. The money benefited The Fowler Bonan Foundation Clothes for KidsThe Night’s Shield Children’s ShelterThe Lighthouse Shelter, and the Williamson County Heartland Rotary iPad project for children with learning disabilities.

Chris Nichols Joins Young Professionals Committee

Priority Group’s Murfreesboro office is developing in the community by way of its team members. Chris Nichols, Director of Business Development, was just named a committee member for the MT SHRM Young Professionals group.

 

MT SHRM is the Middle Tennessee chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management. The Young Professionals group is an affiliate of that chapter. Each quarter, the Young Professionals host a happy hour event of open networking for HR professionals early in their career.

 

June 1st is the next Happy Hour event. Chris Nichols has worked with the rest of the planning committee to put on this event, which is free for all MT SHRM members and their guests. However, registration will still be required for all attendees. Register here

 

“I’m really excited about joining a group of intelligent, forward-thinking individuals,” Chris said. “I look forward to seeing the growth we can have with young HR professionals in Middle Tennessee.”

 

The networking event will be held at SOUTH in Nashville from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on June 1st. Individuals will purchase their own drinks; complementary appetizers will be provided.

COATS Visual Upgrade

Priority Group strives for an efficient workplace, and because of that, the company just upgraded our staffing software from COATSsql to COATS Visual.

Priority Group sent three representatives to the software company’s headquarters in beautiful Virginia Beach, Virginia from March 22nd to 24th. This three-day program covered all COATS Visual’s features with hands-on instruction.

 

Each of Priority Group’s locations sent one representative: Emily Melvin from Marion, Illinois, Kara Metzger from Vandalia, Illinois, and Ally Farlow from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Each of these women trained and came back prepared to teach what they learned. Now the rest of the team is ready to maneuver through the COATS Visual software as well.

 

“We had a great time at COATS,” said Emily, Placement Specialist. “The whole staff made us feel welcomed and they were very accommodating with our training preferences.”

Ally, Account Manager, said good things about their team as well. “Everyone was easy to work with and answered all our questions. If they did not have an answer, they took the time to go and find it.”

 

Priority Group selected COATS Staffing Software for its ability to track all clients and applicants efficiently. A separate customer relationship management product is not needed when COATS is used to its full potential. It can track history with a client from the initial contact all the way through invoicing.

Priority Group has used this staffing software to stay on top of employee management since opening in 2010. Now we’re very excited to improve that process with COATS Visual. “The upgrade is more user friendly and has a lot of new function that will make everything from sales to operations much smoother within the system,” Ally said.

 

We think some of the most noteworthy features are resume parsing, direct emailing, grid customization, drag/drop features and easier searching.
